Morie Smith currently lives in west Texas with her husband and two kids, the real life inspirations for Shep, Mia, and Hayes in the Red Rock Ranch Mysteries. Her love for storytelling began at a very young age when she would visit the “beauty shop” weekly with her grandmother (the real life inspo for Margaret/ Marge) and entertain them with all the tales her imagination could muster.
After a detour that included a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, and a Doctorate of Audiology from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, she worked for several years as a clinical audiologist before getting the privilege of staying home with her young children, and then writing full time as they went to full time school.
In addition to momming, she is also a real life ranch wife, and she and her husband own and operate Red Bank Cattle Company, a registered black Angus seedstock operation and the real life inspiration for Red Rock Ranch. When she’s not writing, she’s busy being her kids’ and husband’s number one fan, and probably feeding either a dog, cat, horse, or cow because we own way too many animals with a name that love to eat 😉
