We have never been super serious resolution people. We typically have some goals we’d like to accomplish, and it’s typically the usual suspects- eat healthier, exercise more, watch less TV, etc. I’ve noticed this year that it is trending to not share resolutions, but rather “ins” and “outs”. As in fill-in-the-blank is “in”, and fill-in-the-blank is “out” for the year. I liked the idea, so I thought I’d try it today!
Ins for 2024
- More consistent time in Scripture
- Family dinner at the dinner table
- Exercise more than 2 days/ week/ trainer time
- Family game time as much as possible
- Eating 90-95% of our meals at home/ home cooked
- Reading books > social media scrolls
- Investing time/energy in meaningful friendships
- Developing systems/ routines/ rhythms for us instead of trying to fit us into systems, etc.
- Spending time outside as much as possible
- Unplugged weekends at the ranch
- Being fiercely protective of our time/ making sure we are intentional with our time
- Soaking up all the small moments
Outs for 2024
- Surface friendships
- Mindless social media scrolling
- Clutter- physical, mental, emotional
- Being busy for the sake of busy or busy with things that aren’t fruitful
- TV for background noise/ too much screen time
- Having a default yes to commitments
- Being comfortable with surviving, not thriving
Some of these ins and outs are more actionable than others, but I think all turn toward an overarching commitment to living fully and unapologetically in what the Lord is calling us to do. I can’t wait to see what 2024 looks like- there hasn’t been a year yet that has looked like I anticipated. But despite that, they’ve been better and more blessed than I could have ever imagined for us. Just goes to show that the Lord’s plans are better than ours 😉
Happy Monday! Here’s to the best year yet!
