Today is just a little Tuesday funny about Crawfish. When he was a puppy, about six months old, we took him to the vet for his next set of vaccinations. We go to a local vet that we’ve become friends with that we really like. He and I were talking, most likely about our daughter starting kindergarten as they have a son a few grades older at our school.
He has a partnership with a nearby vet school as an adjunct professor and a preceptor for vet students. His placement that day was from the area. In fact, his mom is a teacher at our elementary school. While we were talking, a vet tech was also in the room, and was crouched down and petting on Crawfish. It wasn’t a casual pet either- he was really rubbing his belly and giving him a good petting.
The tech wrapped up the petting to go get Crawfish’s shots and the doc and I shifted our attention to him. It was at this moment, while the vet student was leaned over to examine him and take his temperature that Crawfish chose to poop. Not a little poop. A big poop. A great, big, smelly poop right at the feet of the vet student.
The vet started dying laughing. I was mortified and quickly moved to start cleaning it up, but the vet silently smiled at the vet student. He left the room, and returned in gloves, a paper apron, and a mask and began cleaning. After he scrubbed it all away in his hazmat suit, another vet tech came through with a mop, and we were good as new. The student returned to cautiously give Crawfish his shots. Crawfish earned himself a treat and was ready to go until the next round of shots.
We still laugh about Crawfish potentially ruining that poor guy’s day- especially knowing what it was like when we were students and had the dirty work pushed off on us. But he came back with a smile after shedding his protective gear. He was kind and still interacted with Crawfish happily. It’s been a little reminder that just because yuck things will happen in a day, it doesn’t mean the whole day is yuck. Clean up the yuck and move right along! And everything is more fun with a smush face puppy around!
