Happy Friday, friends! Here in west Texas we are staring down the barrel of a deteriorating weather weekend, with crazy cold temps on Sunday night into Monday. The last I looked there wasn’t a possibility of snow from the moisture standpoint, but those kind of temps. I’m so thankful we already have Monday off school so we can stay in our snuggly beds!
Last Friday, I picked up kiddos from their sleepover at Gran and Bud’s around lunch time and we played at home and finished some of our last Christmas break projects. We had a quiet night with soups and sandwiches (including my homemade tomato soup for one!).
On Saturday morning, we grabbed a delicious breakfast at our local Mexican cafe, and then headed about 45 minutes away to pick up an NTC tote container to transport liquid feed out to the feeder at the ranch. We spent the rest of the afternoon out at the ranch. Steven’s dad went out to deer hunt, and we checked cows. Right after we left, a neighbor called to say that it looked like an electric line had snapped off the pole, so we drove back and waited out there for the electric company to come fix it. We didn’t have any of our games or things for the cabin yet, so it looked a little like this…

This is probably common sense, but our kids get along so much better, and are in such better moods when they haven’t been around screens. They played together with Henry’s dinosaurs on this table made of rocks, and then we all played hide and seek together. It’s not an understatement to say they are terrible at hide and seek. Like yelling where they are hiding terrible at hide and seek. But still fun!
We met Bud just after sunset to leave. You can’t beat a good ranch sunset!

We ended up deciding we were close enough to our favorite Chicken Express that we decided to pop over for dinner! It didn’t disappoint!

We had church on Sunday morning, and then Gran and Bud came over for tacos after church before Bud went back out for the last day of buck season. Liv changed into her Oliver and Otis Valentine’s Day shirt and asked if I could wear my matching shirt. I said yes, of course, (we love matching 😉), but little bro couldn’t help but crash our pic.

Steven took the liquid feed tank out to the ranch that afternoon while the kids and I stayed home and made a batch of chicken and dumplins. Liv helped me cook while Henry took a nap in the playroom. The playroom couch is meant to pull out to make a bed, but more often than not I find Henry on the pull out not pulled all the way up like he’s sleeping in a drawer 😂

Monday was our last day of Christmas break, so the kids lived it up playing, while I caught up on housekeeping and writing. Steven went to fill up the liquid feeder tank after work, so Liv and I made a big pan of our favorite cream cheese chicken enchiladas for when he got home. They were delicious, and it was nice to have leftovers for lunch for a few days!

Tuesday was back to the regular routine. Liv went to kindergarten, then Henry went to preschool, and I went to pilates. After school was back to ballet, and Henry and I spent the entire hour of class time in the library across the street. normally we go check out books and then sit in the car for a little bit, but Henry was having fun with their Lego sets, so we stayed and played the whole time.

Wednesday was back to BSF, and we had lunch with Gran after at Firehouse Subs, one of our favorites. If you have the ability to join a BSF class, or online group, do it! I can’t recommend it highly enough. I finally got Olivia’s closet purged and organized that afternoon, and then it was off to Wednesday night church. Kinder/ First learned about Esau selling his birthright to Jacob for a bowl of lentil stew. They each got to try a cup of lentil stew and were so good about trying it! A few even came back for seconds.
Thursday was our usual routine- school, preschool, pilates. Steven has been working inpatient this week, so he’s had a few late nights, and we’ve had a few cereal for dinner nights. We are looking forward to Olivia’s first basketball game this weekend and just snuggling at home as it gets colder! Happy weekend!
